In a compelling interview on Okeogun Multimedia TV (OMTV), two leaders of Ẹgbẹ́ Àjọṣepọ̀ fún Ìtẹsiwájú Gbogbo Wa, Engr. Dauda Olaifa (Chairman) and Engr. Babalola Olusola (Financial Secretary), spoke candidly on the future of Oyo State politics, the ongoing agitation for power rotation, and how party coalitions and renewed collaborations are reshaping the political landscape.

Party Coalitions and the Agitation for Power Rotation

Responding to a question about the growing trend of party coalitions across Nigeria — especially as politicians begin to align with the ruling party — Engr. Babalola Olusola described the trend as a major turning point for national and local politics. He noted that the reshaping of political alliances offers a unique opportunity for marginalized zones like Okeogun to assert their demand for fair representation.

“The waves of politics in Nigeria are reshaping themselves,” he said. “Coalitions will have a great impact — from the ward level to the federal. We see this as a blessing to our agitation because many parties are beginning to agree with our cause.”

He emphasized that the group has always made its position clear to every party they engage:

“All we ask is that the shape of politics in Oyo State must change. If any party gives its governorship ticket to an Okeogun indigene, that’s the party we’ll support.”

According to him, Ẹgbẹ́ Àjọṣepọ̀ is committed to ensuring that Oyo State politics is restructured in line with what is obtainable in other states where equity and power rotation are respected.

Renewed Collaboration with G22 and Other Zones

Touching on the renewed partnership with G22, a group initially founded by the late former governor Adebayo Alao-Akala to promote power rotation across Oyo State, Engr.Dauda Olaifa revealed that their group has a communiqué that guides their strategy and collaboration efforts.

He stated that this strategy includes partnerships with other marginalized zones such as Ìbàràpá, Ogbomoso, Oyo, and even Ibadan.

“The G22 agenda is to take power from Ibadan and spread it to other zones. Our agitation is specifically for Okeogun, and we already have an understanding with Ìbàràpá on this,” he explained.

The G22, he added, has given Ẹgbẹ́ Àjọṣepọ̀ stronger leverage and clearer access to political collaboration with zones like Oyo and Ogbomoso, even though they had previously engaged them independently.

He also clarified that the group is not antagonistic towards Ibadan, recognizing its political strength with 11 local governments.

“We’re collaborating with Ibadan too. They are the political warlords of the state. But we believe it is time for justice and balance — and that means letting Okeogun have its turn.”
